Design & Layout :
Freddy Duarte’s blog uses a 2 column custom and boasts of a neat design. The FeedBurner headline animator right above the content looks good and provides an easy way to subscribe to the blog for readers if they like the content from the post-titles. Freddy has been intelligent enough not to place a feed count chicklet anywhere on the blog. In general, the feed subscription stats for personal blogs are not very high and displaying a chicklet with a low number of subscribers doesn’t make a very good impression on the new traffic.

Sidebar is nicely organized with the minimal number of widgets. The categories on the top provide easy access to posts, followed by social networking widgets. The advertisements- Google Adsense and Amazon Ads are placed unobtrusively thereafter.

Recommendations:
Tweak the CSS to change the color of the Blog-Title in the header. It almost disappears on mouse-over, as the hover-text color matches the background. You can consider changing the header background itself to suit both the header text as well as making the Google Search unit more apparent.

Content:

It is always hard for any reviewer to say anything about personal content, because it is ( well ! ) personal content and may or may not concern anyone else at all. This implies that a review of personal content depends very much on the nature of the content and its presentation by the blogger.

The content at Freddy Duarte’s blog is written as well as presented very well. The best thing about the blog is the posted videos. They all carry a small introduction to the subject of the video that is of help to those visitors who are interested
in the video but either don’t have fast internet connections or the time to watch them. Missing textual descriptions are one of the 10 ultimate ways to discourage anyone from reading your post. This has been nicely taken care of.

Overall:
Freddy Duarte is neatly designed and well written blog, but being a personal blog may not interest the masses. As for myself, I make sure to check out my friend’s blog often and look for the updates with ‘em. Freddy Duarte’s blog is on my visit-regularly list.
